A small craft fix in Instagram's interface spiraled into a much bigger question: What is a username, actually? And what does it mean for how we understand identity online?
This talk traces that spiral—from @dril to Baudrillard, from the pumpkin spice latte to the phone icon that still looks like a landline—and arrives somewhere concrete: In the Internet Age, users don't just adapt to what we build, they create something new with it. Representations drift from reality, and people don’t just adapt to products—they complete them. The result is a firsthand case study in product judgment when human behavior becomes the strongest constraint, why designing with curiosity and far-fetched futurism matters even more in fast-moving environments.
