Introducing a design system at a design-led company can be like trying to whip a tablecloth off a beautifully set table while people are still eating—and maybe put a nicer tablecloth on at the same time. As part of Notion’s newly formed design system team (est. 2025), we’ll share the tools and techniques we’re using to refactor Notion’s visual foundations and improve things from the inside, without slowing down our peers or compromising the spirit of thoughtful, handcrafted care that makes Notion feel like Notion.
