From paper to pixels: why great ideas start on a napkin

Why do great ideas for designs and interactions often start with a sketch in a notebook or on a whiteboard? Sketching is approachable, it's flexible, it's focused. Raphael will show his process of combining paper with Figma and how to level up your design craft. He will then switch tack and highlight the shortcomings of paper — and how he has brought 10 years worth of analog field notes back into Figma and onto its infinite canvas to create a digital second brain.

Founder & Designer at Cron (acquired by Notion)

Raphael is a designer and engineer. He aims to create software that works and feels like a fine Swiss watch — in part by setting examples for craft, and in part by setting teams up to do their best work. Most recently, he set out to build a best-in-class calendar experience by founding Cron. Now as part of Notion, he's helping to make software tool-making ubiquitous. Raphael studied at the MIT Media Lab and originally hails from Switzerland. In his free time, he runs through forests.

Beyond Solos: a collective approach to music app development

Ableton is a German company that builds digital and physical tools for global music makers. Pablo Sánchez and Oliver Sommerman will unveil the creation of "Note," an iOS music app. Exploring the collaborative process, the team will reflect on the learning curve of team dynamics, drawing inspiration from Marina Garcés. They assert that every creation resonates with a collective identity, shaping both the origin and destination of the product. From challenging assumptions to embracing spontaneous ideas, the team will share pivotal moments that transformed Note, emphasizing the transformative power of collective efforts.
